ARTS
AND MUSIC CURRICULUM
ART
- The main purposes and objectives of the art program at Saint
Paul School are to enhance and develop the student’s
visual perception, creative expression, and to develop an
appreciation for the beauty of the world, which is a source
of all art. By the time a student graduates from the eighth
grade at Saint Paul School, he/she will have the experience
of creating compositions using various media and incorporating
the principles of art.
The purposes and objectives of the mission statement are reflected
in the art program by encouraging the students to apply their
art principles and creative ideas gained through art classes
and apply them to other subject areas. Some examples of application
are posters, lettering, murals, story illustrations, and participation
in art exhibits. Each child is encouraged to show appreciation
for the art produced by himself/herself and others.
MUSIC
- The overall purposes and objectives of the music program
at Saint Paul School are to encourage the enjoyment and appreciation
of music, distinguish pitches, identify musical symbols and
notation, recognize different types and styles of music, and
develop an appreciation for and awareness of a variety of
composers throughout history. By the time a student graduates
from Saint Paul School, he/she should have an understanding
of basic music notation and be able to use that knowledge
to interpret a variety of songs for performance.
The purposes and objectives of the music program at Saint
Paul School reflect the mission statement by providing an
enriching and creative weekly experience where each student
can grow individually as well as perform as a responsible
team member. In addition, the student learns traditional liturgical
music in preparation for attendance at monthly Mass and participation
in the annual Christmas program.
