The mission of the Annual Fund at St. Paul School is to bridge the gap between tuition revenues and operating expenses while providing needed capital to invest in the future of our school.
Facts to Consider
Our faculty and staff are pivotal to the education of our children and the success of the school. At present, the average annual salary for our staff is considerable less than public and other private schools. Our teachers are very skilled and could earn double their pay at area public schools. Why do they stay? They stay because of their dedication and commitment to the values of St. Paul School and Catholic education.
St. Paul School students routinely score in the highest percentiles on national testing and are aggressively recruited by local Catholic and private high schools based on their academic credentials. Our students move on to high school as well rounded and confident individuals including but not limited to, their academic, social, spiritual, and emotional well being. This is an especially noteworthy accomplishment when one considers that our average investment per student is far less than that of public schools in the area. SPS was recognized as one of the top 5 academically performing schools in the Archdiocese of Boston.
At first glance, the obvious answer to bridging the gap is to raise tuition. Were we to do this, we are at risk of becoming exclusive rather than an inclusive school. Many families at our school have multiple children in attendance and the tuition increase could force them to select alternatives for their child’s education.
The Annual Fund
This fund allows SPS to reach out to other groups for support in addition to our current parents. Alumni, grandparents, parishioners and friend of St. Paul School are all potential donors. St. Paul School participates in Matching Gift Programs and Doers for Dollars. Employers will match gifts on an annual basis to educational and nonprofit institutions by matching your gift on a variety of levels. This is a wonderful way to increase your level of giving while also increasing funds to SPS. Foundations and corporations are also willing contributors to our cause but they base their philanthropic decisions on the level of participation from those directly affected by the funds, in particular, the current parents. As contributions from grants and foundations can be sizeable and also designated for specific needs, it is crucial that we increase our “in-house” participation level to as close to 100% as possible in order that we may be considered for these opportunities. Our goal for this year is $55,000.00.
Contributing to the St. Paul School Annual Fund makes you a partner in our mission to make a difference in each child’s experience at our school while we ensure the continued growth of the educational, spiritual, emotional and social elements of a St Paul education. Please join your fellow parents and make a tax deductible gift to the Annual Fund. Every gift is an endorsement of our program. On-line giving is available on the school website www.stpaulschoolwellesley.org
Sincerely,
Karen McLaughlin
